Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about making favicons in PixKit.

Is my image uploaded to a server?+
No. PixKit renders every favicon 100% locally in your browser using canvas. Your image is never sent anywhere, so it's safe for logos and unreleased designs.
Which favicon sizes should I use?+
For most sites, 16, 32 and 48px cover browser tabs, 180px is the Apple touch icon for iOS, and 192px and 512px are the icons referenced in a web app manifest for Android and PWAs.
Why does the ZIP download need the served app?+
The ZIP feature loads the JSZip library from a CDN, which browsers block on plain file:// pages. Run start.command to serve the app, or use the single-PNG buttons which work fully offline.
Do I get a .ico file?+
PixKit exports modern PNG icons, which all current browsers support via the link rel="icon" tag. PNG favicons are sharper and simpler than legacy multi-resolution .ico files.
How is my image fitted into a square?+
PixKit takes the largest centered square from your image (a cover crop) and scales it to each size with high-quality smoothing, so non-square images stay centered and undistorted.

Generate favicons and app icons without uploading anything

A favicon is the tiny square icon that shows in browser tabs, bookmarks and phone home screens. PixKit turns any photo, logo or graphic into a complete set of favicon and app-icon PNGs — 16, 32, 48, 180, 192 and 512 pixels — entirely inside your browser. There is no upload, no queue and no account.

All the standard sizes

Tick the sizes you want and PixKit center-crops your image into perfect squares for each one. 16 and 32px cover classic browser tabs, 48px is used by some browsers and Windows, 180px is Apple's touch icon, and 192/512px are the PWA and Android manifest icons. Choose a transparent, white or black background to fill any see-through areas.

Download one PNG or a whole ZIP

Need a single icon? Hit any single-size button and the PNG downloads instantly — this works even offline from a file. Want the full set? Use Download ZIP to bundle every selected size as favicon-16.png, favicon-32.png and so on, ready to drop into your project.
